Pokemon go community day.

My girlfriend is obsessed with Pokemon go. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a great game. It’s fun, gets you out, great way to socialize. It’s a fantastic game.

But man, is she obsessed. She puts more time into it then I do my console games. And there’s nothing wrong with that. We all find things that we can put ourselves into. For some gaming is a great way to depressurize from the day. I get it.

Today is Pokemon go community day. It’s one time every few weeks where Pokemon go releases different Pokemon in large amounts at designated areas so that players can group, socialize, and give nearby stores heavy foot traffic.

I decided to come with her this time. Usually I skip it because with my arthritic knee, walking that much is painful. But with my weight loss and recent success with walking further I thought today would be a good chance to check it out.

The first thing I noticed were all of the people. I mean, so many, many people walking around, looking down at their phones.

Yet even looking down at their phones they would still talk to each other to get information. “Did you see that shiny?” “Has the raid started?” “What his iv?” People were busy, hurried even, going from one end of the mall to the other. It sounds maddening I know, but people are smiling. Kids are jumping around following their parents. (Yes more adults play than kids.) There’s a genuine feeling of discovery that’s rushed along by the immediacy of the time limit. (11am-2pm) Everyone looked like they were having a fun time.

As for me, I walked a lot and sat a little. It wasn’t until the last hour when the pain in my knee started. Since my girlfriend was out walking around with her pokefriends catching, I had to plan the shortest route back to the car when it came to a close.

I’ll go back again. Maybe after I’ve lost some more weight and I can get around better. It’s another goal to reach. Something to work towards.
